Cornersmith in Marrickville

Last weekend I finally made it to Conersmith in Marrickville for breakfast. I’ve had several takeaway coffees and an absolutely delicous muffin since it has opened, but having heard nothing but great reviews about their food I wanted to try it for myself. The lines of people queuing up to get in on a weekend is also a pretty good indication that this cafe is worth visting.

So on Sunday I bit the bullet and practically rose with the sun (at least that’s what it felt like) in the hope that if I got to the cafe early enough I wouldn’t have to wait for a table or wait to fill my always hungry belly. I booked in a breakfast date with my hubby and sister and dragged them along as they both love trying new places to eat.

As predicted, breakfast was great! I couldn’t resist trying the sourdough toast with ricotta, sweet baked plums, almonds and honey, while my sister went for the bircher museli option with plums and pears and no surprises when hubby chose the free range poached eggs with ham and beans.

We timed our arrival perfectly as we scored a table immediatley and as we exited the cafe, noticed the line had formed. But the good news for those waiting outside for a lazy Sunday breakfast is that Cornersmith is definitely worth the wait.

The quality of food is impressive. Cornersmith uses local, seasonal and ethical produce and therefore their menu changes according to the produce available each week. They even harvest their own honey from bees they keep on their rooftop and on Mondays they are closed for pickling. I can’t wait to try the Ploughman’s lunch on my next visit.
